Apparently, a Beverly Hills liposuction doctor, Dr. Craig Alan
Bitner was fueling his girlfriend’s Ford Lincoln Navigator with
the fat that he removed from patients.
"The vast majority of my patients request that I use their fat
for fuel--and I have more fat than I can use," Bittner wrote on
lipodiesel.com. "Not only do they get to lose their love handles
or chubby belly but they get to take part in saving the Earth."
His website doesn’t exist anymore. While human fat can
technically be used to run a vehicle; unfortunately for Dr.
Bitner it is illegal to use human medical waste to fuel
vehicles. Bitner is still under investigation by the California
State Public Health Department and this issue was only brought
to light because he was letting his girlfriend perform surgeries
without having a medical license. Some patients are now suing
him because he removed too much fat and they now claim that they
are disfigured.

There are many types of biofuels. Soybean oil used to be a very
popular choice, but since the prices have gone up other types of
fats are quickly being integrated. Fat contains triglycerides
that are extracted and converted into diesel fuel. The process
is called Transesterification.
According to The National Biodiesel Board (http://www.biodiesel.org)
vehicles can get about the same mileage out of a gallon of
grease or a gallon of regular diesel. It only takes one gallon
of fat to produce one gallon of diesel. Tyson has been looking
into running their trucks on chicken
schmaltz.
As noted by the National Biodiesel Board, the numbers below show
that the popularity of biodiesel has been steadily increasing.
The National Biodiesel
Board has released the following sales volume estimates for the
US:
2006 -- 250 million gallons
2005 -- 75 million
gallons
2004 -- 25 million
gallons
2003 -- 20 million
gallons
2002 -- 15 million
gallons
2001 -- 5 million
gallons
2000 -- 2 million
gallons
1999 -- 500,000
gallons
So did you ever think that all of those extra pounds could get
you some free gas? All I can say is while I am all for
alternative fuel, I won’t be jumping in on the human fat thing!
